What is Godfrey Daniels?
Godfrey Daniels is a premier live music listening room that has provided the Lehigh Valley with quality entertainment since 1976. Godfrey's has earned a reputation as one of the finest folk music venues in the country. We are a non-profit organization that’s volunteer-run and membership-supported. Anyone can become a volunteer.
Volunteering is the level at which people actively participate in the organization. Our volunteers are the backbone of Godfrey’s daily activity; from setting up, to tearing down each and every event, the volunteers make it happen. One of the most important things for volunteers to remember is that they represent Godfrey’s to our audience. A warm smile and a friendly gesture are essential in creating that special atmosphere we've all come to know and love here at Godfrey’s.
How do I get involved?
First, if you have not done so already, complete the volunteer sign-up form on this page. The information from the sign-up form is used to track each volunteer’s event activity for volunteer incentives and recognition. There are various volunteer positions. You may sign up immediately for counter, seating, cleanup, and performer product sales without any advance training. However, the cashier, soundboard and emcee postions do require experience and/or advance training. Workshops for these positions are scheduled periodically. Basic job descriptions for some of the positions are as follows:
Check reservation count, then set up tables and chairs for the size of audience expected. Make name tags from the reservation list, noting any special seating requests etc. Make the seating chart (a preprinted layout of the room is provided). Usher the audience to their seats as they arrive. After the concert, fold and put away the chairs and tables. A modest amount of cleanup is also involved.
Turn on coffee maker, tea water urn, and fill sinks with soap solution and bleach solution. Fill ice bin and refreshments from refrigerator and freezer in the basement. Restock paper goods and ice cream if necessary. Become familiar with the menu board and prices. Be prepared for intermission. After intermission refreshments are returned to basement storage. Check bathrooms before concert time to restock paper towels and tissue.
Meet the performer(s) and review show time, length of sets, intermission, and anything the artist would like in their introduction (such as record label, new CD, etc). Coordinate with sound tech for start time. At the beginning of the first set, give a brief introduction and info regarding restrooms and smoking lounges (outdoors of course), and at beginning of second set, some info regarding membership, volunteering, Godfrey's history, etc.
Help the artist to count in their product, learn prices, handle sales before the concert, during the intermission, and after the concert.
Generally all join in to take out the garbage and recycling, help put away chairs and tables if needed.
More detailed job descriptions are available in the volunteer book at Godfrey’s. These are very helpful when you're in need of some guidance in terms of what needs to be done. However, there is plenty of time to learn what you need to know and plenty of knowledgeable folks happy to answer any questions you may have.
How do I sign up for performances?
You may sign up yourself, you may call Godfrey’s to leave a message, or one of our coordinators might email or call you.
What time should I be at Godfrey’s to work a show?
The standard time is one and one-half hours prior to show time. If this is not possible, please be kind enough to let us know; leave a message on the voicemail for one of the volunteer coordinators.
Hope to see you there!
