Powered by the blistering blues harp and 200-proof vocals of founding member Mark Wenner, the band churns through American roots music, shakin', rattlin', and rollin' the audience like no other. THE REVEREND Billy C. Wirtz   – PEARLS SERIES

Once again, the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz turns Godfrey Daniels into the First House of Polyester Worship and Throbbing Teenage Desire...Can you say "Amen!" Silly, raunchy, skewed, unpredictable and totally fun, there is nothing anywhere to save your soul and lift your spirits like a sermon from the good Reverend Billy and his pounding boogie woogie piano. This man takes no prisoners! Godfrey's is his favorite place to perform (that's why he filmed his awesome "Sermon from Bethlehem" DVD here a few years back) and he puts on a show like no other. And for those who have never experienced Reverend Billy in all his glory and side-splitting silliness, there is no time like the present; you can still be SAVED! This is a show that usually sells out, so it would be best to book your seats early. Hallelujah!

Back of the Moon

Back of the Moon are one of Scotland's finest Trad bands. 2005 saw them win 'Best Folk Band' at the Scottish Trad Music Awards, while their brilliant new album Luminosity was nominated for 'Best Album'. Since forming in 2000, the band have rapidly gained a reputation for their dynamic live performances. Back of the Moon create a giant acoustic sound through their tightly-woven frontline of Scottish border pipes and fiddle, the intimate pairing of low whistle and flute, the distinctive rhythmic force of their guitar/piano rhythm combo, and awesome three-part vocal harmonies in their Scottish songs - in which each singer takes the lead.

Tonight, eat dinner at the BridgeWorks Irish Pub & Grille across the street for a 10% discount when combined with your discounted admission ($2 off) to the concert. 610-868-1313 for dinner reservations, and be sure to mention the Godfrey’s concert.

Girlyman  CD Release Party

We are all looking forward to Girlyman's release of their new CD "Joyful Sign" right here at Godfrey's.  Imagine that Indigo Girls got together with Paul Simon and created Peter, Paul & Mary - only sexier, and with a quirky sense of humor. Now, with that creative, gender-confused nostalgia in mind, get ready for Doris Muramatsu, Ty Greenstein, and Nate Borofsky - long-time musicians and friends who found themselves making beautiful music together in their shared Brooklyn apartment. Together, the three members of Girlyman create a rich, poignant, playful sound that crosses genres and genders. Writes the Hartford Courant, "Sweet, sassy, serious and, at times, playfully confrontational...Girlyman is an infectious combination of rock music, folk songs, classical roots, punk sensibilities and just plain fun." Please welcome them back to our stage and get your chance to pick up their brand new CD, signed, sealed, and delivered.

Mad Agnes

Mad Agnes returns to Bethlehem and Godfrey's with their award-winning original songs and haunting Celtic tunes, as well as their breath-taking instrumentals. Juggling guitars, and keyboard, female vocalists Adrienne Jones and Margo Hennebach complement one another, while Mark Saunders' guitar work recalls the inventiveness of Richard Thompson. "Mad Agnes isn't really mad at all. They know exactly what they're doing: crafting clever and beautiful songs and singing them flawlessly!" Pete Fornatale - WFUV, New York. A delicious evening of music, indeed.

Stefan Grossman, Danny Kalb, & Steve Katz

Beginning when he was 15, Stefan Grossman studied with the Reverend Gary Davis on the weekends, spending 8 to 10 hours a day at his house in Harlem, absorbing all he could. In the early 60’s Grossman formed the Even Dozen Jug Band with Steve Katz, John Sebastian, Maria Muldaur, and David Grisman, and worked with the political rock band the Fugs before moving to Great Britain. Danny Kalb was a protégé of the great Dave Van Ronk. In the 1960s he established himself in New York’s seminal folk and blues scene as a solo performer and as a session player working with Phil Ochs, Judy Collins, and Pete Seeger, among others. In 1965, Kalb founded The Blues Project with Al Kooper, Roy Blumenfeld, Andy Kulberg, Tommy Flanders and Steve Katz. Steve Katz also studied guitar with Dave Van Ronk and the Reverend Gary Davis. In addition to the Even Dozen Jug Band and The Blues Project, Katz was a founding member of three-time Grammy-winning rock band, Blood Sweat and Tears. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see three legendary guitar players on one stage in the intimate atmosphere at Godfrey’s.

THE Nields

Katryna and Nerissa Nields are sisters who have been in the business since 1991 with their fresh mold of indie, folk, country, and angst music. Singing together since they were children, they became inextricably bound by their love for singing and one another, leading to their breakthrough as a phenomenal duo on the New England coffeehouse folk circuit. Their quirky, emotive songs have always challenged the mind, even as they touched the heart, and their sound was so protean, shape-shifting from acoustic to quasi-punk, that one article described them as a bowl full of granola and M-80s.  The result is a kind of musical hot-room yoga, infused with a jolt of youthful energy. Always a sell-out concert, the Nields at Godfrey’s is guaranteed to have you leaving with a smile on your lips and a tune in your heart.

Silk City  – PEARLS SERIES

Silk City is a string band with a sound as unique as their repertoire, with a breathtaking variety of styles including hard-driving bluegrass, wide-ranging ethnic music, sparkling original vocals and instrumentals, and audience favorites like the "Wizard of Oz Medley". The trio combines exciting, interesting arrangements and meticulous delivery with a hard-hitting sound that will enrapture acoustic music lovers. Barry Mitterhoff’s stellar mandolin stylings, Danny Weiss’ heartfelt guitar and vocals, and Larry Cohen’s propulsive bass combine to produce a fresh and exciting band sound that nevertheless reflects the polish of musicians who have performed together for many years, recently as the rhythmic heart of Skyline. Always a favorite here at Godfrey’s, and it’sgood to have them back.
