Marc SILVER & the STONETHROWERS

Marc Silver & The Stonethrowers is acoustic music on a palette of traditional bluegrass and country instrumentation. Lively tempos, gifted soloists, three- and four-part vocal harmonies, as well as the lyrical ballad, characterize the band’s sound. Four lead singers create an engaging interplay of personality and singing styles while Marc's original songs display lyric writing that is sensitive, reflective, and honest without an ounce of pretentiousness.

Garnet Rogers

Welcome back one of Godfrey’s enduring favorites, dating back to those magical visits with his brother Stan, a powerful baritone, guitarist, and performer - with a presence as big as the Canadian landscape itself! Garnet’s performances run the gamut from sensitive love songs to riveting, emotionally-charged protest numbers; his repartee ranges from amusing anecdotes to biting sarcasm. Accompanying himself on 6- and 12-string, he also utilizes hi-tech electronics in the Roland guitar synthesizer with entertaining results.

Garnet has requested folks coming to the concert to bring non-perishable donations for a local food bank.

Tony Bird

With a mesmerizing intensity, a unique voice, vision, guitar style, and persona, Malawi-born songman Tony Bird is a complete original. Growing up in southern Africa in the era of colonialism and Apartheid, Bird developed a sharp, conscious universal eye with an expansive repertoire, ranging from topical and historical commentary to love songs, musical tone poems, and exotic travelogues that roam from bushmen to bicycles. Tony Bird has been called "The Father of African Folk-Rock." Yet, he is even more. He's an inventive, passionate and theatrical performer who delivers the moving, searching anthems of a mature poet. The extraordinary experience of a Bird concert is not to be missed. "The finest, most impressive folk poet in years" - The Village Voice.

Savoy-Doucet cAJUN Band

Honored with notable awards, The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band play honed down, hard core Cajun music laced with an earthy sensuality. Marc and Ann Savoy and Michael Doucet have been performing and recording together since 1977, recording five CDs on the Arhoolie label. Although the Savoy Doucet Cajun Band insists upon maintaining a more acoustic approach to Cajun music the band can hold its own amongst Cajun music lovers everywhere. In fact, the band loves seeing how much power and sound they can get out of just three instruments. The trio brings the raw energy of the dancehalls of southwest Louisiana to the stage, peppered with humorous and informative anecdotes about life on the Louisiana prairies.

GREG GREENWAY with KIM and REGGIE HARRIS

Greg has been described as one of the strongest and finest voices in folk music. A rare combination of instrumental expertise, a soulful and moving singer, powerful poet, and sparkling entertainer, he is one of those difficult-to-categorize performers who have found a home in the modern acoustic genre. Greg draws inspiration from all over the map - gospel, rock, blues, Jazz, and world music. But his center is in the singer/songwriter tradition that traces it roots all the way back to the social awareness of Woody Guthrie. His central appeal is that it all comes through the singular lens of his own humanity and his easy affinity for the audience.

Kim and Reggie Harris are no strangers to Godfreys, always blending well-crafted originals, spirituals, freedom songs, and unique covers of some of their favorite writers such as Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs, and David Roth. Their own writing covers a wide range of styles and topics - love and human relationships, global issues, humorous moments, history, and heritage - delivered with scrumptious harmony and warm presence.!

Blackwater

Blackwater has become our traditional St. Patrick’s day “house band”, and it’s no wonder. The music they make so well sounds like it could have come straight from the Isles, but in truth it’s from right here in the Lehigh Valley. As guitarist Sean Hennessy explains it, “Blackwater is a river that flows through parts of Ireland, near to where my family is from. Through the cycle of nature, the water that flows today is in part the same water that flowed generations ago. Our goal as a group is to travel this “cultural river” and bring you the stories we find along the way”. This is one of our best-loved shows, and usually is a solid sellout, so please reserve your seats early so you won’t be disappointed.

Frank is now the resident jazz virtuoso of the Lehigh Valley, and brings his friend Bucky Pizzarelli to join him for this special concert. Bucky has toured with Benny Goodman and Stephane Grappelli, and been an important figure on the world jazz stage since the fifties. The list of musicians Bucky has played and recorded with is a Who’s Who of popular music in the 20th century. Now in his eighties, Bucky is still in demand as a premier player, and continues to influence the young lions of today and enchant audiences worldwide. Godfrey’s 32nd Birthday Bash with THE ELECTRIC FARM and DAVE FRY and LIZANNE KNOTT and Cindy’s Buffet

Our annual birthday celebration is full of laughter, great music, fine food and good friends! Hosted by our very own revered founder Dave Fry, and introducing special guest Lizanne Knott, the evening will be rounded out by music from The Electric Farm. Joey Mutis’s (III, that is) music has been a breath of fresh air in the Lehigh Valley’s music scene for years, now. We can’t help but applaud his Electric Farm, with its always crisp arrangements, tasty folk-pop sound and Joey’s quirky songs. There’s elements of The Kinks, Neil Young and Nick Drake (look him up…). Anyway, it’ll be an evening of delicious music, guaranteed! A new album is on the horizon with the band further exploring the “folksy space rock situation”.

David Grier

David Grier is the most award-winning guitarist in recent memory. For the past several years, he has been voted by the members of the IBMA as Best Guitar Player of the Year. He is featured on two Grammy-winning recordings: "True Life Blues-A Tribute to Bill Monroe" and "The Great Dobro Sessions." David is listed in the book, "1,000 Great Guitarists" and his "Lone Soldier" project is on Acoustic Guitar Magazine's "100 Essential Acoustic Guitar Recordings of All Time.” David’s inspiration to play guitar came from knowing Bill Monroe while his father, Lamar Grier, played banjo for the Blue Grass Boys in the middle 1960s. In addition to his solo work, David appears as the guitarist for Psychograss, who are currently celebrating a critically acclaimed new album, "Now Hear This". Pick up David’s new solo CD, Live at the Linda, while you’re here!

Double Bill: Matt Duke / Jonathan McEuen

Note: We have just been informed that due to unforeseen circumstances, Jonathan McKuen will not be appearing this Saturday March 29 as originally scheduled.  Our apologies for any disappointment and inconvenience this may cause.  Please join us in welcoming singer/songwriter Matt Duke in his solo appearance at 8pm.  Thank you.

With a pleasing acoustic sound, Matt’s third appearance at Godfreys is sure to be a good one. This singer-songwriter is all about dynamics, with songs that give and take energy, but always leave you wanting more. Personal lyrics in his original songs give you even more of a sense of who he is, and his comedic banter between songs helps with this. This is definitely a show you will not want to miss.
