Jack Murray & The Mignight Creeps

Who better to start our annual big day at Liederplatz than regional favorite Jack Murray and his band du jour? Jack was a founding member of country-rock band “Golden Rocket” in the late 70s, virtually defining the “Americana” classification a decade or two before the term was adopted - with a unique mix of folk, blues, “roots” rock & roll, and country music. He’s played in countless other musical configurations while successfully writing for Nashville recording artists and providing his various bands with strong and witty original material. This afternoon the Creeps band is: Alan Landes on guitar, Karl Frick on bass, and Miss Ellen Houle on drums. Jack's debut cd, Then There's That, will be available at the Godfrey Daniels booth. A returning favorite at Godfrey’s and other area venues, and co-host with Karl at the weekly Barto Jam, Jack's music incites dancing – don’t miss it!

Paul Rishell and Annie Raines

When harmonica ace Annie Raines first sat in with country blues guitarist Paul Rishell in a Boston bar in 1992, few in the crowd suspected that they were witnessing the beginning of a musical partnership that would span the next fifteen years and counting. As a working team, Paul and Annie have racked up hundreds of thousands of miles on the road in the U.S. and Europe, collaborated on original songs, and released I Want You To Know (Tone-Cool/Artemis 1996), Moving To the Country (2000), the W.C. Handy Award winner for Acoustic Blues Album of the Year, and Goin’ Home (2004), which was nominated for two Handy Awards. Paul and Annie’s fifth CD together, “A Night in Woodstock” was released last year. The pair’s first live release features special guests John Sebastian, Bruce Katz, and Paul and Annie’s own backing band joining the duo for an eclectic, high-energy set of acoustic and electric originals and classic blues songs. Paul and Annie are equally passionate about their craft and devoted to the study and performance of a wide range of blues styles, from the syncopated acoustic guitar wizardry of Blind Lemon Jefferson and Son House to Chicagoan “Little” Walter Jacob’s swinging amplified harmonica. Hoots And Hellmouth

Philadelphia’s Sean Hoots, Rob Berliner, Andrew Gray, and John Branigan, collectively known as Hoots and Hellmouth, perform rocking blues and gospel saturated old/new music with solid vocal harmonies and bouncing rhythmic accompaniment. They are all over WXPN, and gaining momentum all over the country. This is young, fresh, hot music that will have you on your feet and jumping. With a brand new cd The Holy Open Spirit, H&H invite you to Sing and Dance with them, lay your weary burden down and get lifted for a spell. Let's break away from the traditional roles of performer and audience.

Chandler Travis Philharmonic

Chandler Travis Philharmonic might loosely be tagged as Alt-pop-Dixieland with Attitude. Brass, strings, vocals, bells, whistles, and percussion on anything handy, this nine-piece band makes rowdy, rousing, fun music. Bill O’Neill of the Cape Cod Times said “if Monty Python had grown up sneaking into bars in New Orleans they would have formed a band a lot like Chandler Travis”, and D Shaun Bosler of the Village Voice calls them “a hodgepodge of over-the-top wacky fun”. Plus, they usually perform in their pajamas. Like Zen? The Spankers? Geologic Orchestra? You will LOVE Chandler Travis.

Chris Smither

Chris Smither is a perennial favorite at Godfrey’s. His complex, driving guitar playing, growling voice, and playful, ironic lyrics take the solo blues idiom to new places. Bringing his been-there, done-that voice along with the crystalline, eloquent sounds of his finger-picked acoustic guitar to our stage, Chris delivers like no other. Smither's masterful twelfth album Leave the Light On, stands as the quintessence of his life's work while throwing in some new wrinkles that reflect where he's been and what he's encountered since the last time around, and includes such music notables as Ollabelle, Tim O’Brien, and Sean Staples. Pick one up at the Godfrey Daniels booth!
